Academic Writing Project Management Solutions

Do you have a working system to manage your academic writing projects?

My area of research is academic writing productivity. Using strategies from writing studies scholarship on what actually works, and my expertise as a faculty writing coach, I develop individualized academic writing project tools for tracking progress on single or multiple academic writing projects, and the writing habits that contribute to project production.

Academic writing involves the process of writing but also the systems put in place to maintain a pipeline of presentation and publication that actually focuses on the writing itself – not just on writing-related tasks to check off a list. A solid academic writing project management system recognizes that at any given time, faculty are juggling multiple projects in the idea phase, a research phase, the drafting phase, revision, waiting on co-author feedback or IRB approval, out for review, revise and resubmit, etc. Unfortunately, typical systems on the market involve using business project management software other other tools not designed for academia. Systems I design address your individual academic context, writing habits, and types of projects you are juggling. A working academic project management system focuses on the big picture of all writing projects you are managing (from idea to publication) but also the smaller writing habits contributing to all of these projects. Systems I design recognize that at any given time, you are working on multiple projects and need strategies to keep track of progress made on all of them. A personalized academic writing project system also provides a clear work plan to write on multiple projects within the same week, or even the same day.
